Gary Briere is the Director of Recreation for Mass dcr statewide and
came from Boston to speak at the Berkshire Trails Council meeting. He strongly urged if dcr is going to get any funding to move forward on improving ORV trails and building a new park that Mass residents must write, call, or email your state representative and your Governor on the following points:
You need to reinforce that ORV riding a safe, legal, and growing family sport that needs to recognized. The legislature needs to fund the
dcr to build and maintain ORV trails within the state forest units.
A rare Environmental Bond bill is being put together by the legislature and has language for trail maintenance and construction but not for ORV trails. It's critical your legislator needs to know that the bond language must recognize and include ORV trails in future projects. Millions
of dollars are at stake here.
The ORV community was very effective in using Governor Patrick's website to express our opinions and he seems to recognize our existence. Keep going to his website and commenting.
Finally, when you write your state legislator ask them to kill the ATV
Safety bill, HB3592. This bill is very onerous and would basically end
all ATV and dirt bike riding by kids.
